Crimewave is a 1985 black comedy film directed by Sam Raimi, notable for being his first studio film following the success of his independent hit, The Evil Dead. The film stars Reed Birney as Ernest Trend, a frustrated businessman who hires the hapless exterminators, Vic (played by Ted Raimi) and his partner, Lenny (played by Joel Coen), to murder his business partner, Arthur Coddish (played by Richard Bright). However, due to a series of mishaps and miscommunications, the pair end up killing the wrong man, leading to a desperate and chaotic attempt to cover up their crime.

As they try to frame innocent people for the murder, including the video surveillance man (played by Bruce Campbell), they also have to contend with a bizarre cast of characters, including the over-the-top landlord, Mrs. Cordell (played by Frances McDormand), who has a penchant for extreme violence and horseback riding.

The film is notable for its quirky style, combining elements of film noir with surreal comedy and slapstick humor. It also features a memorable score by composer Ethan Coen, as well as a supporting performance by actor Paul L. Smith as the imposing gangster, Faron Crush.

Although the film was not a commercial success upon its release, it has since gained a cult following due to its offbeat humor and distinctive visual style.
