Lost in the Shadows: A Mother's Battle for Sanity

The movie follows the story of Carolyn (played by Paula Trickey) and her daughter Laura (played by Christina Cox). Laura is a gifted student who graduates from high school at the age of 16 and is excited about starting college. However, her life takes a dark turn when she decides to learn horseback riding at a boarding ranch in the countryside.
At the ranch, Laura meets a woman named Martha (played by Catherine Oxenberg), who appears to be kind and nurturing at first. However, as Laura spends more time with her, she realizes that Martha is actually controlling and manipulative. Martha has an obsession with her own dead daughter, and she sees Laura as the perfect replacement for her.
Martha begins to brainwash Laura, gradually taking control of her mind. She convinces Laura to cut off all ties with her family and friends, and to live with her at the ranch permanently. Carolyn becomes increasingly worried about her daughter's safety and tries to get her back, but Martha uses her power and influence to block all of Carolyn's attempts.
Carolyn does not give up, however, and spends the next five years of her life and over half a million dollars trying to rescue her daughter. With the help of a private investigator, she eventually manages to track Laura down and brings her back home. However, the experience has left its scars on Laura, and she struggles to readjust to normal life after being brainwashed for so long.
