The movie Crazy on the Outside follows the story of Tommy, played by Tim Allen, as he navigates his way through life after being released from prison. After spending three years behind bars, Tommy finds himself struggling to adjust to life on the outside, particularly now that he's living with his quirky sister Viki, played by Sigourney Weaver.
Desperate to prove himself to his family and friends, Tommy takes a job at a local hardware store, where he quickly becomes friends with his coworkers Mike (JJ Abrams) and Angela (Jeanne Tripplehorn). However, things quickly spiral out of control when Tommy's former prison mate, Gray (Ray Liotta), comes looking for him, forcing Tommy to navigate a dangerous situation to protect his loved ones.
Throughout the movie, Tommy must learn to juggle the pressures of his new job, his overbearing family, and his dangerous past with Gray. Along the way, he discovers that the true meaning of family and friendship may be the only things that can help him overcome his difficult transition back into society.
