Cover Versions is a thriller film directed by Todd Berger which revolves around a group of musicians of the synth-rock band Starfoxy played by Katie Cassidy, Austin Swift, Drake Bell, Jerry Trainor, and Debby Ryan who are on the cusp of superstardom as they prepare for their biggest gig at a music festival. The night before the show, they decide to throw a rager at a secluded mansion of their record label executive, Nick played by Jonny Mars, to celebrate their success and have fun. However, things take a dark turn when they wake up the next morning to find one of their fans, named Jennie played by Ashley Argota, dead in the pool.
As the police arrives and starts investigating the case, the band members are interrogated one by one by a detective portrayed by Kevin O'Connor. But as each of their accounts differs from one another and secrets gradually begin to unravel, it becomes evident that not everything is as it seems, and they may have more to do with Jennie's death than they initially thought. Along with the mystery of the murder, the film also explores themes of loyalty, greed, fame, and how far people are willing to go to achieve success.
As the film unfolds, it soon becomes clear that each of the band members has their own motives for covering up the murder, and the tension and suspicion between them continuously escalate. Cover Versions is a character-driven thriller that keeps the audience guessing till the end and is a must-watch for fans of both mystery and music.
