The Libner brothers set out on their road trip from Michigan to Florida in the titular Coupe de Ville, with each brother taking turns behind the wheel. Along the way, they encounter various obstacles, including car troubles, hitchhikers, and run-ins with the law.
Marvin, the responsible and duty-bound older brother, clashes with both Buddy and Bobby over their careless and impulsive behavior. Buddy, who has always felt overshadowed by Marvin, is on a quest to find his place in the world and prove himself to his family. Bobby, meanwhile, is a rebel without a cause, struggling with his own personal demons and the looming threat of juvenile detention.
