Cops & Robbersons is a 1994 action-comedy film directed by Michael Ritchie. The film stars Chevy Chase as Norman Robberson, a bumbling suburban police officer who teams up with a tough detective named Jake Stone, played by Jack Palance.

Stone is investigating a notorious hitman named Osborn, played by Robert Davi, who has rented a house next door to the Robberson family. In order to keep an eye on Osborn’s activities, Stone moves in with the Robbersons, but he soon finds himself dealing with the eccentricities and quirks of the family.

The Robbersons are a dysfunctional family consisting of Norman, his wife Helen, played by Dianne Wiest, their teenage daughter Cindy, played by Fay Masterson, and Norman’s elderly mother, played by Hope Lange. Norman is an overzealous cop who has taken the law into his own hands, while his wife Helen is a free-spirited artist who is constantly at odds with Norman’s strict rules.

As Stone tries to investigate Osborn’s activities, he finds himself constantly distracted by the Robberson family’s antics. Norman is convinced that Osborn is up to no good, but his efforts to catch him only result in chaos and confusion.

As the tension between the Robbersons and Stone builds, they must put aside their differences and work together to stop Osborn before it’s too late. The film features plenty of action and humor, as well as the comedic talents of Chevy Chase and the dramatic presence of Jack Palance.
