Chris Farraday, played by Mark Wahlberg, is a former smuggler who has left his criminal life behind and settled down with his wife Kate, played by Kate Beckinsale, and their two children. When Kate's younger brother, Andy, gets involved in a drug deal gone wrong and owes a dangerous drug lord named Tim Briggs, played by Giovanni Ribisi, a large sum of money, Chris is forced back into smuggling to help repay the debt and save Andy's life.
Chris assembles a team of his former colleagues and travels to Panama to smuggle millions of dollars' worth of counterfeit bills back to the United States. However, things do not go as planned when they find out they have been set up, and the counterfeit bills they were given are useless. Now they have to come up with a new plan quickly, all while avoiding the police, Briggs, and his henchmen.
Along the way, Chris and his team encounter several obstacles, including corrupt officials, double-crossing allies, and dangerous situations that get them in more trouble than they expected. In the end, Chris must use all his skills to outwit his enemies and successfully complete the job, or risk losing everything he holds dear.
