Communion is a science fiction horror film released in 1989, directed by Philippe Mora. Based on the book of the same name by Whitley Strieber, it stars Christopher Walken as the protagonist, Whitley Strieber, a bestselling author who is experiencing strange and terrifying encounters with otherworldly beings.

The movie starts with Strieber and his family arriving at their cottage in upstate New York for a weekend getaway. During the night, Strieber experiences strange occurrences and hazy memories of being abducted by aliens, which he partly recalls in his dreams. Strieber's wife, Anne (Lindsay Crouse), initially attributes these strange occurrences to Strieber's overactive imagination, but as more and more incidents occur, she becomes increasingly alarmed.

During one of these incidents, Strieber manages to get a videotape of the aliens that he shows to an acquaintance, who convinces him to appear on a television talk show to share his story. At the show, Strieber speaks about his experiences, hoping to get answers from the experts and others who have had similar encounters. However, after the show, the alien abduction seems to intensify, and Strieber becomes increasingly isolated and paranoid.

As the plot thickens, Strieber's marriage deteriorates and he becomes estranged from his wife, who is unable to comprehend his increasingly erratic behavior. Eventually, the aliens kidnap Strieber, and he undergoes a harrowing experience that he cannot clearly recall.

The final scene has Strieber and his family, reunited, spending Christmas together, with Strieber expressing hope for the future and his wife finally understanding and accepting his experiences. Communion is a haunting drama that attempts to explore the complexities of the human psyche in a world that is not linear, rational, or comprehensible.
