Maggie Diggins is a grumpy but practical wombat who works as a librarian in the small city of Big Bend. She enjoys her quiet life and avoids getting involved in anything that doesn't concern her but that all changes when she crosses path with a rookie superhero sugar glider named Marcus.
Marcus is on a mission to capture a dangerous villain named Blackbeak, who possesses a powerful weapon that could destroy the city. However, things don't go as planned, and Marcus ends up in a life-threatening situation, with no one around to help him except for Maggie, who reluctantly comes to his rescue.
