Colossal Youth follows the story of Ricardo, a 17-year-old romantic boy who has been in love with his fellow classmate Carolina for years. When Carolina suddenly returns to school after a long absence, Ricardo makes a plan to win her heart and make her his girlfriend.
As Ricardo goes through various attempts to impress Carolina, including writing love letters and serenading her with a guitar, he begins to lose sight of himself and his own identity. He starts neglecting his studies and family, and his only focus becomes Carolina.
However, a turn of events leads Ricardo to hit rock bottom, causing him to question his actions and his feelings for Carolina. In his struggle to figure out what he wants, he realizes that his true love has been his childhood friend and neighbor, Jhony, who has always supported and cared for him.
Colossal Youth is a coming-of-age story that explores themes of first love, self-discovery, and the importance of genuine human connections. The film is directed by Brazilian filmmaker André Novais Oliveira and won the Nespresso Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival's Critics' Week in 2017.
