In College Road Trip, Melanie Porter (played by Raven-Symoné) is a high school senior who dreamt of attending Georgetown University since she was a little girl. To ensure she makes the right decision about her future, Melanie decides to take a road trip to visit different universities around the country during her spring break. However, her overprotective father, Police Chief James Porter (played by Martin Lawrence), insists on accompanying her to keep her safe.
As they travel across the country, Melanie and her father encounter a series of hilarious mishaps and misunderstandings. They get lost, their car breaks down, and they end up in an animal shelter where they adopt a pig who ends up causing havoc in their journey. Along the way, they also pick up Melanie's best friend, Nancy (played by Brenda Song), who adds to the adventure.
During their trip, Melanie also learns more about her father's past and his dreams of becoming a musician. Together, they overcome their differences, learn to trust each other, and grow closer as a family. In the end, Melanie finds the perfect college for her and gets accepted into Georgetown, while her father is proud of her and supports her decision.
