Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 picks up where the first film left off, with Flint Lockwood and his friends evacuating their hometown of Swallow Falls after the catastrophic food storm caused by Flint's invention, the Flint Lockwood Diatonic Super Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator (FLDSMDFR).
Flint is invited to join The Live Corp Company, a corporation run by his idol, Chester V, that aims to create technologies for the betterment of mankind. The company is tasked with cleaning up Swallow Falls, which has been left abandoned and contaminated by the food storm.
Initially excited at the prospect of working for his hero, Flint quickly realizes that all is not as it seems at The Live Corp Company. He discovers that his FLDSMDFR invention is still operational and has been producing food that has evolved into living creatures with dangerous and unpredictable behaviors. These include cheeseburger spiders, watermelon elephants, and taco-diles, among others.
With the help of his team, including Sam Sparks, Tim Lockwood, Officer Earl, and Brent McHale, Flint returns to Swallow Falls to shut down the FLDSMDFR and save the world from the mutant food beasts. In the process, they encounter a group of cuddly but mischievous food creatures known as the "foodimals" and must find a way to stop them from taking over the island.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 is a fun and adventurous family film that continues the humorous and imaginative world-building of the first movie. The film features a talented voice cast, including Bill Hader as Flint, Anna Faris as Sam, and Will Forte as Chester V, as well as new characters like Terry Crews' Earl, who takes over the role of the town's overzealous cop.
