Clockwise

Comedy  United Kingdom

Clockwise is a British comedy film directed by Christopher Morahan and written by Michael Frayn, starring John Cleese in the lead role. The film was released in 1986 and revolves around an obsessive headmaster named Brian Stimpson who is determined to arrive at a conference on time.

Brian Stimpson is an uptight, punctual and authoritarian headmaster of a mediocre British school. He is respected and feared by his colleagues and students for his rigid discipline and no-nonsense approach towards education. He has been selected as a keynote speaker for a conference in Norwich, and he is very excited about the opportunity to represent his school on a national level.

However, things start to go wrong when Brian oversleeps and misses his train, causing a chain of events that leads to a series of comical mishaps. He is forced to hitch a ride with a friendly lorry driver, but ends up getting lost in a small town. He is mistaken for a criminal and chased by the police, loses his briefcase containing his speech and train ticket, encounters a group of eccentric travellers, and ends up stranded in the countryside.

Despite all these obstacles, Brian remains determined to reach the conference on time. He meets a helpful schoolgirl who takes him to her home where he meets her mother, a former teacher, who offers him moral support and a change of clothes. He finally hitches a ride with a motorcycle gang who arrive at the conference just in time for him to deliver his speech.

In the end, Brian realizes that his obsession with punctuality has caused him to overlook the more important things in life, such as enjoying the journey and connecting with people. The film ends with him taking a more relaxed approach to life, leaving the audience with a message: even the most uptight people can learn to loosen up and enjoy the ride.
