The movie Clifford, released in 1994, is a comedy film directed by Paul Flaherty. It stars Martin Short as the titular character Clifford, a mischievous and manipulative ten-year-old boy who is sent to live with his Uncle Martin (Charles Grodin) in Los Angeles. Martin is engaged to Sarah Davis (Mary Steenburgen), a kind-hearted and patient woman who tries her best to bond with Clifford.
Clifford is obsessed with visiting a theme park called Dinosaur World, which was designed by his uncle. Martin makes plans to take him to the park, as he hopes to impress an important investor. However, things go awry when Clifford's behavior becomes increasingly erratic and destructive. He lies, cheats, and even sabotages Martin's relationship with Sarah, all in an effort to get to the theme park.
As the trip to Dinosaur World draws closer, Martin's frustration with Clifford reaches a boiling point. He snaps and vents his anger by yelling at everyone around him, including his boss and Sarah. This culminates in a wild chase through the park, where Martin tries to catch Clifford, who has run off on a rollercoaster.
In the end, Clifford realizes the error of his ways and apologizes to his uncle, who forgives him. Martin and Sarah also reconcile, and the family returns home to a newfound sense of peace and harmony.
Despite receiving generally negative reviews upon release, Clifford has since gained a cult following for its offbeat humor and Martin Short's outrageous performance. It has been described as a dark comedy for children, with themes of rebellion, manipulation, and emotional repression.
