City on Fire is a 1987 Hong Kong action thriller film directed by Ringo Lam and starring Chow Yun-fat, Danny Lee, and Sun Yueh.
Ko Chow, the protagonist, is a young and inexperienced police officer who is forced into an undercover mission to infiltrate a gang of jewel thieves led by the ruthless Li Ah Chai. As he becomes more deeply involved with the gang, he begins to feel conflicted about his loyalties. He is torn between his duty to the police force and his sympathy for the gang members, who are often portrayed as victims of society.
As the story progresses, tensions rise within the gang as they plan a major heist. Li's right-hand man, Fu, becomes increasingly suspicious of Ko Chow and begins to investigate his background. Meanwhile, Inspector Lau, Ko's boss, becomes increasingly desperate to bring the gang to justice and puts pressure on Ko to deliver results.
The film features intense action scenes, including a climactic shootout in a crowded shopping mall. The themes of loyalty, betrayal, and redemption are explored throughout, and the film's ending is both shocking and ambiguous.
