City of Lies is a crime thriller film directed by Brad Furman and stars Johnny Depp as LAPD detective Russell Poole and Forest Whitaker as journalist Jack Jackson. The movie is based on the book "LAbyrinth" by Randall Sullivan, which details the investigations conducted by Poole into the murders of rappers Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G.

Poole becomes obsessed with the case, convinced that there is more to it than what the official version of events suggests. He believes that the murders were a result of institutional corruption and that high-ranking members of the LAPD were involved in the deaths of the two rappers.

Jackson, a journalist who was once a rising star but has since fallen on hard times, is intrigued by the story and begins to investigate it himself. He finds that Poole's claims may have merit, but as he digs deeper he starts to uncover dangerous secrets and a web of lies that goes all the way to the top.

The movie switches back and forth between the investigations of the two men, showing how they gradually piece together clues and unravel the conspiracy. Along the way, they encounter obstacles and resistance from those who want to keep the truth hidden.

As the mystery deepens and the stakes get higher, Poole and Jackson must risk everything to find the truth and bring those responsible to justice. The movie touches on themes of police corruption, journalistic integrity, and the search for justice in an unjust world.
