Vincent LaMarca's past haunts him as he once grew up in Long Island with a drug-addicted mother and a criminal father who was eventually executed for kidnapping and murder. To escape his past, Vincent moved to the city and built a successful career as a detective. However, when a young man is found murdered in his hometown, Vincent is forced to return and confront his past demons.
As he investigates the case, Vincent discovers that his estranged son, Joey, is the prime suspect. Joey is a drug addict who has turned to petty crime, and Vincent blames himself for not being there for him. Vincent is torn between his duty as a detective and his love as a father. He tries to protect his son from the law while attempting to find the real culprit behind the murder.
Throughout the movie, Vincent also develops a relationship with a woman named Michelle, who helps him confront his past and move on. As Vincent delves deeper into the case, he comes to realize that his father may not have been the true monster he believed him to be.
