C.H.U.D., which stands for Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers, was released in 1984 and directed by Douglas Cheek. The movie stars John Heard as the police officer, Daniel Stern as the photo journalist, and Christopher Curry as the bum who helps them.
As the killings continue, the group discovers that the creatures were once human but have been mutated by toxic waste. They are now cannibalistic and live in the tunnels and sewers under the city.
The group battles the creatures, who are powerful and difficult to kill. They also try to get the word out to the public and gain the support of the city's leaders to address the pollution that caused the mutation in the first place.
While the movie received mixed reviews upon release, it has gained a cult following over the years and is considered a classic horror movie of the 80s. It's also notable for featuring early roles for John Goodman and Jay Thomas.
