Whispers of Competition: The Interpreter Showdown.

Drama,Comedy,Romance  Hungary

Chuchotage is a Hungarian short film directed by Barnabás Tóth, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018. The film centers around a professional conference in Prague, where a Hungarian booth is providing interpreting services for attendees. Two interpreters, Mária and Gábor, are tasked with interpreting for a deaf-mute Italian businessman named Roberto. However, they both develop a crush on him and begin competing for his attention.

The two interpreters use increasingly absurd and hilarious tactics to outdo each other and impress Roberto, leaving him confused and amused. Their antics include making animal noises, mimicking various accents, and even performing a song and dance routine.

As the conference progresses, Mária and Gábor's competition heats up and they become increasingly desperate to win Roberto's affection. However, in the end, they realize that their rivalry has been silly and ultimately meaningless.

Chuchotage is a charming and witty film that explores themes of competition, communication, and the absurdity of human behavior. It has received critical acclaim and numerous awards, including the Best Short Film award at the Hungarian Film Week.
