Luther Krank (played by Tim Allen) and his wife Nora (played by Jamie Lee Curtis) live in a suburban Chicago neighborhood where Christmas is a big deal. However, Luther becomes fed up with the commercialization and consumerism of the holiday and decides to skip Christmas altogether by going on a Caribbean cruise with his wife.

The couple cancel their annual Christmas party and take down all of their decorations, much to the dismay of their neighbors who are used to the Krank's festive traditions. As they prepare to leave for their trip, they encounter unexpected obstacles such as pushy carolers and an overly enthusiastic Christmas tree salesman played by Dan Aykroyd.

Things take a turn when their daughter Blair (played by Julie Gonzalo) suddenly decides to come home for Christmas, and Luther and Nora are forced to scramble to put together a last-minute celebration. They must deal with angry neighbors who feel betrayed by their holiday desertion, and Luther must come up with creative solutions to make up for their lack of preparation.

Amidst the chaos, the Kranks rediscover the true meaning of Christmas and the importance of family. The movie is based on the novel "Skipping Christmas" by John Grisham and features a star-studded cast including Cheech Marin, M. Emmet Walsh, and Felicity Huffman. Christmas with the Kranks is a light-hearted holiday comedy that explores the meaning of the season and the value of community.
