Joy Holbrook is a successful market researcher in Washington, D.C. who is aiming for a promotion within her company. However, she receives news that her beloved Aunt Ruby has broken her ankle and needs surgery. Joy decides to reluctantly head back to her hometown of Crystal Falls, North Carolina to be with her aunt during her recovery.
Upon her return home, Joy is reunited with her former crush, Ben Andrews, who is now a successful businessman and single father. Ben has always had feelings for Joy, but she was too busy with her career to notice. Joy becomes involved in the town's annual Cookie Crawl competition, a beloved tradition Aunt Ruby chaired. Joy steps in as chair and starts planning the event alongside Ben, who is more than happy to offer his assistance.
As Joy and Ben work on the Cookie Crawl, they become closer and eventually fall in love. Joy also starts to rediscover her love for her hometown and the people who live there. Meanwhile, Joy's boss in Washington, D.C. is impressed with the work she is doing on her assignment in Crystal Falls and offers her the promotion she has been working towards. However, Joy realizes that her heart belongs in Crystal Falls with Ben and Aunt Ruby, and decides to stay.
On the day of the Cookie Crawl, Joy and Ben's hard work pays off, and the town comes together to celebrate the holiday spirit. Joy and Ben share a kiss, and the movie ends with Joy happily staying in Crystal Falls with her new love and Aunt Ruby, knowing that there's no place like home for the holidays.
