Emily is a successful news anchor, but still longs for the one who got away five years ago, her college sweetheart, Brian. She regrets never telling him how she felt before their relationship ended. When the Christmas carnival comes to her town, Emily is excited to relive some of her childhood memories. As she takes a ride around the carousel, she is inexplicably transported back to the same carnival five years earlier.
Emily is shocked to find herself back in the past, and quickly realizes that she has been given a second chance at love with Brian. She can now do things differently and finally tell him how she feels. Emily spends more time with Brian and realizes what she was missing all these years. But she knows that her time is running out, and she must return to Christmas present before the time portal closes.
As she returns to the present day, Emily is left with an overwhelming sense of loss. She has fallen in love with Brian all over again, but must go back to her current life. However, she now knows what she wants and takes action to make things right. Emily reaches out to Brian and finally confesses her feelings. They both realize they still have strong feelings for each other and agree to meet up that night at the Christmas carnival.
Emily anxiously waits for Brian, with whom she has rekindled a true connection, but wonders if he will show up. When she sees him, she bursts into tears, realizing that they were meant to be together. By taking a chance and opening up about her feelings, Emily was able to find her way back to the love of her life and finally achieve the happiness she deserves. The movie ends with Emily and Brian walking hand in hand at the carnival, with a sense of peace and love in their hearts.
