The film follows Xavier (played by Romain Duris), a writer and father of two who is still trying to figure out his life at the age of 40. When his wife Wendy (Kelly Reilly) announces that she is moving to New York with their children, Xavier decides to follow them, hoping to remain a present figure in their lives despite the distance.

In New York, Xavier settles into a small apartment in Chinatown with his friend Isabelle (Cécile de France), a lesbian who is trying to have a baby with her ex-husband. Xavier begins to navigate the complexities of American life, including the challenges of getting a work visa and dealing with his ex-girlfriend Martine (Audrey Tautou), who is also living in New York.

As Xavier tries to make sense of his new life and his feelings for Wendy, he realizes that he is not alone in his struggles. Along the way, he forms new friendships and unexpected connections that help him navigate the challenges of adulthood.

Chinese Puzzle is a witty and heartfelt film that explores the complexities of relationships, identity, and the search for meaning in a constantly changing world.
