Kyle Bodine is a detective in a small Florida town who is investigating a robbery that resulted in the murder of a wealthy businessman. At the scene of the crime, he meets Rachel Munro, the victim's young and beautiful widow. Despite her troubled marriage to the victim, Kyle is immediately drawn to Rachel and they begin a passionate affair.
As their relationship deepens, Rachel confides in Kyle that her husband was abusive and she had been planning to leave him. However, he discovered her plans and became increasingly violent towards her. One night, in self-defense, Rachel shot and killed her husband.
