The movie begins with a flashback to Ruth's childhood in Gatlin, Nebraska, where she was raised in a strict religious community controlled by a cult of children. Ruth witnessed the cult's brutal killings of all the adults in the town, including her own parents. She managed to escape with the help of a compassionate teacher and was taken in by a foster family.

Fast forward ten years, and Ruth is now a young mother with a son named Aaron. She lives in a trailer park and works at a diner under an assumed name, trying to stay under the radar and keep her past a secret. However, her efforts are in vain as her traumatic memories start to resurface, and strange occurrences begin to happen around her and Aaron.

Ruth's fears are confirmed when she realizes that her past has caught up with her, and the child cult is now in pursuit of her and her son. She tries to flee the town with Aaron, but the cult's leader, Isaac, tracks them down.

In a showdown between Ruth and Isaac, Ruth ultimately triumphs and manages to kill him with the help of Aaron. Ruth and her son leave the town, hoping to finally start a new life free from the horrors of their past.
