In the movie Children of the Corn, the psychopathic girl is named Malachai and is the leader of a cult-like group of children who worship a deity known as "He Who Walks Behind the Rows." The group believes that adults are corrupt and must be sacrificed to their deity in order to ensure a bountiful harvest.
When a couple passing through the town stumble upon the group's activities, they are brutally murdered by the children. This incident prompts the arrival of a young couple, Burt and Vicky, who become stranded in the town after their car breaks down. As they try to unravel the mystery of the town's eerie emptiness, they discover the true nature of the children's cult.
Burt and Vicky soon come into conflict with Malachai and his followers, and the situation quickly spirals out of control as the children begin to take more extreme measures to protect their cult and silence any opposition.
Throughout the movie, the tension builds as the adults in the town are slowly picked off by the children and the couple tries to find a way to escape. The film culminates in a tense showdown between Burt, Vicky, and the remaining children as they try to stop the cult and survive.
