Chico & Rita is a 2010 animated film directed by Tono Errando, Javier Mariscal, and Fernando Trueba. The movie follows the story of Chico, a talented young pianist, and Rita, a beautiful singer, both living in Havana, Cuba in the late 1940s. They fall in love and begin to navigate the challenging world of the entertainment industry together.
As they travel from Havana to New York City and back to Havana again, Chico and Rita perform at various clubs and venues, gaining a following and building their careers. However, their journey is fraught with obstacles, including betrayal, jealousy, and the racial tensions of the time.
Chico & Rita is a love story that captures the vibrant spirit and music of Cuba. The film is animated in a traditional hand-drawn style and features an original soundtrack by legendary Cuban pianist and composer Bebo Valdés. The movie was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2012.
