When we first meet Ginger, she is one of many chickens trapped in a barn on a British farm. Although the days are all the same and the routines are monotonous, Ginger is determined to find a way out. She and her friends spend years brainstorming escape plans, but nothing ever seems to work. That is, until Rocky the rooster literally falls into their lives.
Rocky is an American rooster who has flown across the Atlantic in a circus crate. Ginger sees in Rocky the potential to help them escape, as his ability to fly over the fence could be their ticket to freedom. However, Rocky is reluctant to get involved, as he is actually a bit of a fraud- he doesn't know how to fly at all.
Together, Ginger and Rocky come up with a plan to gather all of the tools and resources they need to build a plane. Yes, a plane. While the concept seems far-fetched, the two of them remain optimistic despite the numerous setbacks they face along the way.
As the chickens work tirelessly to construct their flying machine, the farmers, Mr. and Mrs. Tweedy, become increasingly suspicious. They realize that the chickens are plotting something, and set up a system of security measures to prevent them from escaping. But the chickens are determined, and when the day finally comes, they make a grand attempt to fly over the fence and into the great unknown.
There are tense moments, moments of humor, and ultimately moments of triumph in this witty animated adventure. Though there are times when it seems unlikely that the chickens will succeed, the power of determination and teamwork eventually prevails as they escape the clutches of their tyrannical captors.
