Sgt. Major John Frost is thrilled to be home for Christmas after his last deployment and looks forward to a warm welcome from his wife, Jill, and son, Jimmy. However, when he arrives home a month early, he finds them preoccupied with their new dog, Charlie. John feels left out and struggles to adjust to civilian life after months spent away on duty.
Feeling lost and alone, John turns to the Moose Lodge and finds comfort in the company of other veterans. However, everything changes when Charlie discovers Hank, a homeless and sick Vietnam vet. John is moved by Hank's plight and resolves to help him start anew.
With the help of his friends, family, and community, John rallies together to build a new home for Hank and several other homeless vets. As the project progresses, John finds himself feeling fulfilled and purposeful once again. And on Christmas Eve, they all gather together in the cozy new home and celebrate the holiday in a warm and loving atmosphere, grateful for each other, Charlie's Christmas Wish comes true.
