Charlie St. Cloud is a 2010 romantic drama film directed by Burr Steers and starring Zac Efron in the lead role. The movie is based on the novel, The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud by Ben Sherwood.
The film follows the life of Charlie St. Cloud, a young man who is passionate about sailing and has a bright future ahead of him. However, his life takes a tragic turn when his younger brother Sam dies in a car accident, and Charlie is unable to save him. Devastated by the loss, Charlie gives up his dreams of sailing to work as a caretaker at the local cemetery where his brother is buried.
Four years later, Charlie's high school classmate Tess returns to town and reignites his love for sailing. However, Charlie is torn between his promise to meet Sam every day at sunset and his growing feelings for Tess. As Charlie struggles to overcome his guilt and grief, he learns to let go of the past and embrace the present.
Throughout the film, Charlie is guided by the ghost of his brother Sam, who helps him to confront his fears and move forward with his life. The movie explores themes of loss, grief, and love, as well as the importance of family, friendship, and forgiveness.
In addition to Zac Efron, the film stars Amanda Crew as Tess, Charlie's love interest; Kim Basinger as his mother Claire; and Ray Liotta as the paramedic who saved Charlie's life on the night of the accident. Charlie St. Cloud received mixed reviews from critics but was praised for its emotional depth and Efron's performance.
