The movie Chaos Theory follows Frank Allen, a successful and organized speaker on time management, who lives his life by the minute. Frank has a perfect routine that includes waking up at the same time, his morning jog, and having breakfast with his wife, Susan. However, things take a turn when Susan decides to play a prank on him and set his clock forward by 10 minutes, throwing his sense of timing off-balance.
Frank becomes distraught when he realizes he has missed important deadlines and meetings and begins experiencing a mid-life crisis. He deviates from his rigid routine and starts randomly picking index cards with instructions on them, dictating his actions for the day. As he continues to follow these cards, his life becomes unpredictable, and he starts to question the purpose of his strict and orderly lifestyle.
Soon, Frank discovers unsettling truths about his own life and relationships. He comes to grips with his own past mistakes, secrets, and traumas and tries to have a second chance with his wife and his best friend, Buddy. While contemplating his own life's chaos, Frank tries to put his own life back in order, forging a new perspective on life that is not so strictly regimented.
Chaos Theory is an engaging study of the human condition, as Frank's struggles will likely be relatable to many viewers. The movie shows that life is messy and that people tend to lack control over it, no matter how organized and intentional they try to be. With the right push and a sense of adventure, however, one can embrace life and its beautiful chaos.
