Gavin Banek (played by Ben Affleck) is a successful lawyer on his way to file important court documents that could make or break a multimillion-dollar deal. Doyle Gipson (played by Samuel L. Jackson) is a recovering alcoholic trying to make it to a court-ordered custody hearing to prove he is a fit father.
When Gavin accidentally sideswipes Doyle's car on the FDR Drive, he leaves the scene in a hurry, offering Doyle a blank check as compensation. However, in his rush, Gavin accidentally leaves behind an important file that is vital to Doyle's custody case. Doyle, already frustrated and angry, discovers the file and realizes its importance.
As the day goes on, both men's lives begin to unravel. Gavin discovers that the missing file could jeopardize his entire career, while Doyle's custody case hangs in the balance. The two men find themselves locked in a bitter battle, each trying to outmaneuver and sabotage the other in order to protect themselves and get what they want.
Throughout the film, both men are forced to face the consequences of their actions and confront the mistakes they have made in their lives. Ultimately, they must decide whether to continue down the path of revenge and destruction or find a way to move forward and make amends for their wrongdoings. Changing Lanes is a tense and thought-provoking thriller that explores themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the consequences of our actions.
