Chain Reaction is a 1996 science-fiction thriller film directed by Andrew Davis and starring Keanu Reeves, Morgan Freeman, Rachel Weisz, and Fred Ward. The movie is set in Chicago and follows two young researchers, Eddie Kasalivich (Keanu Reeves) and Lily Sinclair (Rachel Weisz), who work at a sustainable energy project funded by a large corporation.
After successfully producing a new form of energy from water, their team is attacked, and their lab is destroyed along with all the evidence of their invention. Eddie and Lily later discover that they are being framed for the murder of their colleague and the theft of their invention. They decide to go on the run to uncover the truth and clear their names.
During their escape, they uncover a sinister plot by the corporation, headed by Paul Shannon (Morgan Freeman), to suppress their invention and continue to profit from fossil fuels. As they search for evidence to prove their innocence, they become targets of a relentless pursuit by police and assassins hired by the corporation.
The film features intense action scenes as Eddie and Lily try to outrun their pursuers while also trying to stay alive. They make their way through dangerous situations, including high-speed car chases, explosions, and a thrilling scene where they are pursued on a train.
As Eddie and Lily race to clear their names, they eventually discover a shocking truth that could change the course of energy production forever.
