Certain Fury is a 1985 crime drama film that follows the story of two young women, Scarlett and Tracy, who become unlikely allies on the run from the law. Scarlett is a teenage prostitute, while Tracy is a minor offender who has been sentenced to community service.
The two women cross paths in court when Tracy is caught stealing from a convenience store and Scarlett is brought in as a witness in a murder trial against her abusive pimp. Chaos ensues when the pimp opens fire in the courtroom, killing the judge and several other people. Scarlett and Tracy manage to escape and end up on the run, being pursued by both the police and the pimp's henchmen.
As they flee across the city, Scarlett and Tracy must confront their own inner demons, and learn to rely on each other to survive. Along the way, they encounter a cast of eccentric characters, including a sympathetic drug dealer who helps them out of a tight spot.
The film is notable for its gritty portrayal of the seedy underworld of prostitution, drugs, and violence. It also explores themes of redemption and female empowerment, as Scarlett and Tracy come to realize their own self-worth and refuse to be victims any longer.
Certain Fury stars Tatum O'Neal as Tracy, and Irene Cara as Scarlett. The film was directed by Stephen Gyllenhaal, and features a memorable soundtrack by Bill Conti.
