Celebration

Comedy  Russia

In the movie Celebration, set in Leningrad during the blockade, we follow the Voskresensky family as they navigate the difficulties of life in a country house during wartime. With their cook gone, they struggle to feed themselves and their unexpected guests. The tension in the house is heightened by the constant threat of bombings and the scarcity of food and resources.

As the New Year approaches, the family faces increasingly complex problems. The youngest son brings home a young woman, who is starving and in need of shelter. The eldest daughter arrives with a man she intends to marry, but her father disapproves and tensions rise between them. Meanwhile, the family's patriarch is struggling with his own health issues, making it even harder to cope with the challenges of the blockade.

Despite these difficulties, the family attempts to celebrate the New Year, even if it means improvising a party with what little they have. They sing songs and share stories, trying to hold onto hope and a sense of normalcy amid the chaos of wartime. In the end, Celebration is a touching portrayal of the resilience and strength of the human spirit, even in the darkest of times.
