Cedar Rapids follows the story of Tim Lippe, played by Ed Helms, an insurance salesman from Brown Valley, Wisconsin. He is sent to the big city of Cedar Rapids to attend a convention in hopes of saving his company from going bankrupt.
Tim is a simple and naive man who has never left his small town, which makes his trip to Cedar Rapids an exciting experience for him. In the city, he meets a group of fellow insurance agents, including the charismatic Dean Ziegler, played by John C. Reilly, who introduces Tim to a world of parties, drinking and wild behavior.
As Tim navigates the cutthroat world of the insurance industry, he forms genuine connections with his fellow agents - including Joan, played by Anne Heche - which challenges his personal beliefs and opens his eyes to a new way of living.
Throughout the film, Tim learns to stand up for himself and, ultimately, fights to redeem his company's reputation on the convention floor. The movie is a heartwarming and witty comedy that explores the idea of finding oneself outside of one's comfort zone.
