Cats follows the story of the Jellicles, a tribe of cats who gather in a junkyard for their annual Jellicle Ball. During the event, one cat will be chosen to ascend to the Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a new life. As the night progresses, various cats step forward to share their stories and prove why they should be the chosen one.
Among them are Grizabella, a once-beautiful cat now shunned by the tribe; Rum Tum Tugger, a rebellious feline with a rockstar persona; and Old Deuteronomy, the wise and respected leader of the Jellicles. The decision ultimately rests with Old Deuteronomy, who observes the proceedings and weighs the merits of each candidate.
As the cats compete for the honor of ascending to the Heaviside Layer, they face challenges and obstacles, including the threat of the villainous Macavity, an evil cat determined to make the journey himself. Through it all, the Jellicles come together to celebrate their unique qualities and forge a bond that will last beyond the night's festivities.
Cats features an ensemble cast of talented performers, including Jennifer Hudson, Taylor Swift, Ian McKellen, and Judi Dench. It is directed by Tom Hooper, who previously helmed the film adaptation of Les Misérables. The movie is based on the hit stage musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, which has captivated audiences worldwide since its premiere in 1981.
