The movie begins with Wendy the Good Little Witch being threatened by a warlock named Desmond Spellman. Wendy seeks protection and goes on the run with her aunts Gert, Gabby, and Fanny. They end up at a resort called Aunt Mae's Inn, which is coincidentally also being visited by Casper the Friendly Ghost and his uncles, Stretch, Stinkie, and Fatso.
Initially, Casper and Wendy are warned by their respective family members that ghosts and witches don't get along, but the two become quick friends. Meanwhile, Spellman discovers where Wendy is hiding and shows up at the resort to try and capture her. In the process, he also causes chaos for the guests and staff.
Casper and Wendy team up to try and defeat Spellman. Casper's uncles provide comic relief and aid in the battles against Spellman's henchmen. Wendy's magical powers come in handy as well. In the end, the two succeed in defeating Spellman and saving the day.
The movie features a mix of live-action and computer-generated imagery for the ghost characters. Hilary Duff plays Wendy, while Casper is voiced by Jeremy Foley. The movie was released in 1998 and was a direct-to-video release. It was well-received by audiences who enjoyed the light-hearted, family-friendly adventure.
