Sam "Ace" Rothstein is a brilliant gambler who has made a name for himself in the underworld. He is chosen by his bosses to run the Tangiers, a luxurious casino in Las Vegas, in order to ensure that the casino rakes in as much money as possible for the mob bosses. Sam takes the job and quickly becomes a success, turning the casino into a stylish and profitable establishment.
However, things start to fall apart when Sam's childhood friend, Nicky Santoro, arrives in town. Nicky is a violent and unpredictable enforcer for the mob, and he immediately begins to cause trouble for Sam by making enemies with other casino bosses and skimming money from the casino.
Sam also has to deal with his troubled relationship with his wife, Ginger, who is still involved with her manipulative and abusive ex-boyfriend, Lester Diamond. Sam tries to keep Ginger under control, but she becomes increasingly addicted to drugs and alcohol and starts to spiral out of control.
Meanwhile, corrupt politicians and law enforcement officials are also causing problems for Sam, as they try to extort money from the casino and use their power to try and take it down.
Despite all of these challenges, Sam refuses to back down and continues to fight for control of the Tangiers. However, his determination puts him in ever-increasing danger, and he must navigate his way through a dangerous and treacherous world in order to survive.
