Comedy  United Kingdom

Carry On Matron is a British comedy film released in 1972 and directed by Gerald Thomas. The film is the 23rd installment in the Carry On franchise and features a star-studded cast including Kenneth Williams, Charles Hawtrey, Joan Sims, Barbara Windsor, and Hattie Jacques.

The film revolves around a gang of thieves who plan to steal a shipment of contraceptive pills from Finisham maternity hospital. The gang consists of Sid Carter (Sid James), his dim-witted son Cyril (Kenneth Cope), and Nellie (Hattie Jacques), a buxom blonde who has a way with words.

To pull off their heist, the gang poses as doctors, nurses, and patients, using disguises that range from the ridiculous to the outrageous. However, their plan is thwarted at every turn by a series of mishaps and misadventures, including the constant interference of the hospital staff.

Sir Bernard Cutting (Kenneth Williams) is a hypochondriac consultant who sees danger around every corner, Matron (Joan Sims) is a stern but well-meaning authority figure, and the doctors and nurses have their own quirks and foibles that get in the way of the gang's plan.

As the gang tries to outwit the hospital staff and make their escape with the contraceptive pills, the film is filled with classic Carry On humor, including innuendo-laden jokes, slapstick comedy, and sight gags that will make viewers laugh out loud.

Despite the group's efforts, the heist is ultimately foiled, but the film still ends on a high note as Sid and Nellie discover they have fallen in love. Carry On Matron remains a beloved classic in the Carry On franchise and is a must-see for fans of British comedy.
