After being mistaken for a fighter, Hengist Pod (played by actor Kenneth Williams) is taken to Rome where he is enlisted in the Royal Guard to protect Cleopatra (played by actor Amanda Barrie). Horse (played by actor Jim Dale) is also enslaved and put to work as a galley slave.
Meanwhile, in Rome, Julius Caesar (played by actor Kenneth Connor) is plotting to overthrow Cleopatra and take control of Egypt. Caesar enlists the help of two dim-witted assassins, Sosages (played by actor Joan Sims) and Horsa (played by actor Bernard Bresslaw), to carry out his plan.
As Hengist settles into his new position as a member of the Royal Guard, he quickly becomes infatuated with Cleopatra. But when Caesar's plan to overthrow her is put into action, Hengist and Horse must band together with the rest of the Royal Guard to protect her.
The film is a comedic take on the history of ancient Rome and Egypt, with plenty of puns and slapstick humor throughout. It was released in 1964 and was the tenth film in the "Carry On" series of British comedy films.
