During the meeting, the four adults - Zachary's parents, Michael and Penelope Longstreet, and the victim's parents, Alan and Nancy Cowan - attempt to have a rational discussion about what happened and how to resolve the issue. However, as the conversation progresses, tensions rise and the adults' true colors begin to surface.
Michael, a high-powered lawyer who is always on his phone, is dismissive of the situation and more concerned with work. Penelope, a writer and art lover, tries to lighten the mood with small talk but often rubs the others the wrong way. Alan, a salesman, and Nancy, a wealth manager, are initially polite but become increasingly confrontational as the conversation goes on.
As the adults bicker and argue, their behavior becomes increasingly childish and petty, reflecting the same immaturity they are trying to condemn in their children. Through the course of their conversation, secrets are revealed and grudges are aired, leading to an explosive conclusion that leaves everyone reeling.
Carnage is a darkly comedic exploration of human nature and the thin veneer of civility that can crumble with the slightest provocation. The film features a talented cast, including Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet, Christoph Waltz, and John C. Reilly, and is directed by Roman Polanski.
