Romance,Music,Drama  United States of America

Carmen Jones is a 1954 musical film directed by Otto Preminger and stars Dorothy Dandridge as the titular character, Harry Belafonte as Joe, and Pearl Bailey as Frankie. The film is an adaptation of the opera Carmen by Georges Bizet, but with a modernized story set in the United States during World War II.

The film follows Carmen, a passionate and seductive factory worker who sets her sights on Joe, a naive soldier stationed nearby. Despite his engaged status and warnings from his fellow soldiers, Joe falls for Carmen's charms and begins a tumultuous relationship with her. As their affair intensifies, Joe receives an opportunity to attend pilot training and must decide between Carmen and his military career.

Meanwhile, Carmen catches the attention of a famous boxer named Husky Miller, who becomes obsessed with her and seeks revenge when he realizes she has chosen Joe over him. The conflict between the two men leads to a tragic conclusion.

The film was groundbreaking for its time for featuring an all-Black cast in lead roles, and Dorothy Dandridge's portrayal of Carmen earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, making her the first Black actress to receive this honor. The film also features a memorable score by Oscar Hammerstein II and Georges Bizet, including iconic songs such as "Dat's Love" and "There's a Boat That's Leaving Soon for New York."
