Carlito's Way is a 1993 crime drama film directed by Brian De Palma and starring Al Pacino as the title character, Carlito Brigante. Carlito is a former drug dealer who has just been released from prison after serving five years for a drug-related crime. He now wants to live a different kind of life, away from the violence and drug trade that landed him in jail.

One of the first things Carlito does after his release is to visit his old friend and lawyer, David Kleinfeld (played by Sean Penn). Kleinfeld is still involved in the drug trade, but Carlito tries to distance himself from him. He also reconnects with his old flame, Gail (played by Penelope Ann Miller), who is now a dancer in a local nightclub.

Despite his best efforts to stay clean and avoid trouble, Carlito finds himself drawn back into the world of drugs and violence. He is pressured by his old associates to get back into the game, including a young up-and-coming gangster named Benny Blanco (played by John Leguizamo).

As Carlito tries to navigate his way through this dangerous world, he is constantly reminded of his past mistakes and the consequences they have had on his life. He is determined not to repeat those mistakes and to live a better life outside of New York City.

The film is a tense and suspenseful look at one man's struggle to overcome the odds and make a new start for himself. Pacino delivers a powerful performance as Carlito, and the supporting cast is equally impressive. De Palma's direction is stylish and visually striking, adding to the film's overall impact.
