Camp Rock is a Disney Channel Original Movie released in 2008. The film revolves around a young girl named Mitchie (played by Demi Lovato) who dreams of becoming a musician and attending the prestigious summer music camp called Camp Rock. However, her family can't afford the steep tuition fees, so her mother gets a job as the camp's cook in exchange for Mitchie's attendance.
At Camp Rock, Mitchie struggles to fit in with the popular crowd and impress the instructors. She is befriended by Caitlyn (played by Alyson Stoner), who helps her come out of her shell and find her voice. Meanwhile, the camp's star performer, Shane (played by Joe Jonas), takes an interest in Mitchie's talent and invites her to collaborate with him on a song for the camp's final showcase.
As the summer progresses, Mitchie tries to impress Shane and his bandmates while also dealing with the jealousy and sabotage of the popular girls. She is also trying to keep a secret - that her mother works as the camp's cook and is not a wealthy music producer like she has been claiming.
At the final showcase, Mitchie's secret is revealed when the popular girls expose her mother's true identity. However, Shane and everyone else at camp are impressed with Mitchie's talent and honesty, and she is ultimately awarded the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience alongside the camp's instructors and top students.
The film ends with Mitchie realizing that it's not about being popular or fitting in, but about staying true to herself and following her dreams. A sequel, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, was released in 2010.
