Call Sign "Banderas" is a Ukrainian action war film set in the autumn of 2014 during the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine between Ukrainian forces and Russian-backed separatists. The movie focuses on a Ukrainian intelligence group headed by Anton Sayenko, known as "Banderas", a highly skilled and experienced captain.
The group is tasked with preventing sabotage and neutralizing a Russian saboteur in the ATO (anti-terrorist operation) zone. As they carry out their mission, they face numerous challenges and obstacles, including limited resources, treacherous terrain, and mounting tensions between Ukrainian soldiers and civilians in the warzone.
The film features intense action scenes and a deep dive into the mindset and experiences of soldiers fighting in a warzone. Along with showing the bravery and courage of Ukrainian soldiers, it also sheds light on the devastating impact of war on civilians caught in the crossfire.
Call Sign "Banderas" was directed by Akhtem Seitablayev and stars Andriy Isayenko in the lead role. It was released in Ukraine in November 2018 to critical acclaim and has since been screened at numerous international film festivals.
