The Lost Moon: Tribal Treasures

Comedy  United Kingdom

Call Me Bwana is a 1963 British comedy film directed by Gordon Douglas and starring Bob Hope and Anita Ekberg. The film was shot on location in Kenya and the United Kingdom.

The plot of the film revolves around the crash landing of a moon capsule in Africa. When the capsule is discovered by a tribe in the remote interior, the US government sends Matthew Merriwether (played by Bob Hope), an inept insurance salesman, to retrieve it. Despite his protests that he knows nothing about Africa, Merriwether is sent on the mission because he happened to be present when the capsule crashed.

On the way to the interior, Merriwether meets and falls for Luba (played by Anita Ekberg), a foreign agent who is also after the capsule. Unfortunately for Merriwether, Luba has him followed by a team of henchmen who try to steal the capsule from him at every turn.

When Merriwether and Luba finally reach the tribe that has the capsule, they discover that the tribal chief believes the capsule to be a sacred object and refuses to give it up. In the end, Merriwether and Luba must find a way to convince the chief to part with the capsule while fending off the rival agents who are still after it.

The film was not a critical success, with critics criticizing the plot and the comic timing of Bob Hope. However, it did receive praise for its location shooting in Kenya and its use of African music and culture.
