The film Caligula and Messalina was released in 1982 and is a historical drama set in ancient Rome. It follows the story of Messalina, a beautiful and ambitious woman who wants to become Empress of Rome by any means necessary.
To achieve her goal, Messalina engages in various sexual escapades, including orgies and prostitution. She even competes in the gladiator arena to gain the favor of Emperor Caligula, who eventually makes her his wife.
However, Messalina's lust for power and sex gets her into trouble, and she finds herself embroiled in a dangerous web of political intrigue. Her arch-nemesis, Agrippina, plots to overthrow Caligula and have her son Nero take the throne.
Despite Agrippina's efforts, Caligula is assassinated, and Messalina immediately jumps into bed with his successor, Claudius. From there, Messalina's sexual antics continue, leading to her pregnancy by a man other than her husband.
Agrippina sees this as an opportunity to take down her rival for good and exposes Messalina's infidelity to Claudius. Ultimately, Messalina meets a tragic end, executed for treason and her many sexual transgressions.
Caligula and Messalina is known for its explicit depictions of sex and violence, which caused controversy upon its release. Despite mixed reviews from critics, the film has gained a cult following over time.
