Caged Women, also known as Women's Penitentiary III, is a 1991 exploitation film directed by Italian filmmaker Franco Prosperi. The film features a cast of mostly unknown actresses who are subjected to various forms of sexual and physical abuse at the hands of the cruel and sadistic warden, Carla.
The story follows a group of young women who are sent to a remote island prison after being convicted of various crimes. Once there, they quickly realize that their lives are in danger as they are subjected to strip searches, forced labor, and sexual abuse by the prison staff.
Despite the harsh living conditions, the women band together and begin to plot their escape. Along the way, they must navigate the complex power dynamics within the prison, including a dangerous rivalry between Carla and one of the inmates, a tough and fearless woman named Rita.
The film is notorious for its graphic depictions of violence and sexuality, including scenes of rape and torture. It has been criticized for its exploitative and misogynistic themes, as well as for its poor quality and lack of originality. Despite this, Caged Women has gained a cult following among fans of the "women in prison" sub-genre of exploitation cinema.
