Cabin Boy is a 1994 comedy film directed by Adam Resnick and starring Chris Elliott as the titular character, Nathaniel Mayweather. Nathaniel is a pretentious, wealthy man who has just graduated from finishing school, and is on his way to claim a job as a fancy hotel in Hawaii. However, due to a mix-up, he ends up on the wrong boat - a dilapidated fishing vessel called the Filthy Whore.
The crew of the Filthy Whore is made up of a rough group of individuals, all of whom are suspicious and superstitious. They believe that Nathaniel is bad luck and begin to treat him harshly, making him do odd jobs and generally tormenting him. Nathaniel, who is used to a life of privilege and comfort, is completely out of his element and struggles to adapt to life at sea.
As the voyage progresses, the crew encounters various disasters, including a giant sea monster and a stormy sea. Meanwhile, Nathaniel begins to bond with one of the crew members, a tough but kind-hearted sailor named Trina, played by Ann Magnuson. Together, Nathaniel and Trina try to survive the various challenges that come their way, while also trying to figure out how to get Nathaniel off the boat and back to his comfortable life.
The film is filled with surreal humor, including a number of bizarre dream sequences and non-sequiturs. It was not a commercial success at the time of its release, but has since gained something of a cult following. Many fans admire the film's offbeat sensibility and Chris Elliott's unique brand of humor.
